Terms of Service
Effective date: 30 September 2026
These terms govern your use of the Kalo mobile application ("the App") developed by Volodymyr Symonchuk ("we", "us"). By installing or using the App you agree to them.
What the App is
Kalo helps you keep a food diary: it recognises food from a photo or a text description, estimates calories and macronutrients, and tracks your weight and water intake. Your diary is stored on your device. Recognition requests are processed by our server using Anthropic's Claude models.
Estimates, not measurements
Calorie and nutrient values shown by the App are estimates produced by an AI model from a photo or a description. They can be wrong, sometimes significantly: portion sizes, hidden ingredients and cooking methods are guessed. Treat the numbers as a guide, correct them when you know better, and do not rely on them where accuracy matters, for example for medical diets, allergies or insulin dosing.
Not medical advice
The App is not a medical device and does not give medical, dietary or nutritional advice. Daily goals are calculated with general formulas and may not suit you. Consult a doctor or a registered dietitian before changing your diet, especially if you are pregnant, under 18, have a medical condition or a history of disordered eating. Stop using the App if tracking makes you feel worse.
Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App on devices you own or control, under the rules of the app store you got it from. You may not reverse-engineer, resell or redistribute the App, or use automated tools to access our server.
Free and Pro
- Free use includes manual entry, barcodes, product search, the diary, weight and water tracking, and a limited number of AI recognitions: a starting bonus plus one per day.
- Kalo Pro is a subscription that raises the recognition limit to a fair-use cap of 10 per day and unlocks Pro features listed in the App.
- Subscriptions are bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play, renew automatically until cancelled, and are managed and cancelled in your store account settings. Prices are shown before purchase. A free trial, where offered, converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled before it ends.
- Refunds are handled by the store under its rules; we cannot issue them ourselves.
- We may change the limits or the price of Pro with notice inside the App; changes to price apply from your next renewal.
Acceptable use
Do not send content that is unlawful, that violates others' rights, or that is not food when using recognition. Do not attempt to bypass limits, overload the service or interfere with other users. We may suspend access from a device that violates these terms.
Your data
You own the data you enter. Because it is stored on your device, keep your own backups: we cannot recover a diary from a deleted App or a lost phone. How we handle photos, descriptions and technical records is described in the Privacy Policy.
Third-party services
The App uses Anthropic (recognition), Open Food Facts (product database), RevenueCat (subscription status), Sentry (crash reports) and Hetzner (hosting). These services belong to third parties, may change or become unavailable, and have their own terms. We are not responsible for their availability or accuracy.
Availability
We aim to keep the recognition service running but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Everything that does not need recognition keeps working offline.
Warranty and liability
The App is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties and are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, including loss of data or any health consequence of relying on the App's estimates. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by applicable law.
Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may discontinue the App or any feature with reasonable notice where practicable.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced inside the App; continued use after the change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ukraine, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live.
